A two-county comparison of the latest available 2024 and 2025 TxDOT crash tables for Ector and Midland counties, the urban core of the Permian Basin’s oilfield transportation network.

What changed in Ector and Midland counties
The counties moved in opposite CMV directions
Ector County CMV-involved crashes declined from 389 to 379, while Midland County increased from 507 to 536. Together, the two-county count increased by 19 or 2.1%.
Alcohol-involved crashes declined in both counties
Ector County DUI (Alcohol) crashes fell from 323 to 286, while Midland County fell from 270 to 228. The combined decline was 79 crashes or 13.3%.
Midland carried the larger 2025 CMV count
Midland County recorded 536 CMV-involved crashes in 2025, compared with 379 in Ector County. Raw counts do not measure risk or explain the difference.

Methodology and limitations
Texas Settlement Calculator transcribed the Ector and Midland county values from TxDOT’s 2024 and 2025 CMV-involved and DUI (Alcohol) county tables. Absolute change equals the 2025 count minus the 2024 count. Percentage change equals that difference divided by the 2024 count, multiplied by 100 and rounded to one decimal place.
Ector and Midland counties are used as an editorial two-county core for this Permian Basin comparison. This is not an official TxDOT region and does not represent the full Permian Basin or the complete attorney territory, which also includes Andrews, Martin, Howard, Glasscock, Crane, Upton, Ward, Winkler, Reeves and Pecos counties. The two crash datasets can overlap and must not be added together.
These are raw reported crash counts, not population- or exposure-adjusted rates. The figures do not measure individual risk, establish causation, assign fault, determine insurance coverage or predict a legal result. TxDOT administrative data may be revised.
