2026 I-35 Central Texas Commercial-Vehicle Crash Data Brief
A TxDOT-based comparison of commercial-motor-vehicle crash totals across Hays, Comal and Guadalupe counties—the county study area connecting San Marcos, New Braunfels and Seguin between the Austin and San Antonio markets.
This is a county-based corridor study area, not an official TxDOT region and not a roadway-level I-35 crash count. County totals include crashes on all roads within the listed counties.

This regional brief is calculated from the same TxDOT source tables used in TSC's statewide research. Regional groupings are editorial study areas unless expressly identified otherwise; raw crash counts are not population-, traffic-, or vehicle-miles-traveled-adjusted risk rates.

Why this corridor deserves separate research treatment
San Marcos / Hays County
I-35 through San Marcos combines through-freight with university, commuter, retail and regional traffic.
New Braunfels / Comal County
New Braunfels sits directly on the Austin–San Antonio I-35 growth corridor, with additional commercial traffic on SH-46 and Loop 337.
Seguin / Guadalupe County
Seguin links the broader corridor to I-10, SH-46 and SH-123, creating a distinct freight connection east of San Antonio.
Methodology and limitations
Texas Settlement Calculator compiled Hays, Comal and Guadalupe county totals from TxDOT's 2024 and 2025 Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Involved Crashes and Injuries by County reports. The combined study-area total is TSC's calculation.
Because TxDOT's annual county tables are county-level datasets, this report does not claim that all included crashes occurred on I-35. Guadalupe County also includes important I-10 and SH-46/SH-123 traffic, and all three counties contain other state, county and local roads.
Raw crash totals are not adjusted for population, traffic volume, truck traffic or vehicle miles traveled. They do not establish causation, fault, insurance coverage or the value of a particular claim.
